My Background (part 2)

Arrakis, in partnership with Southam Communications (owner of the Coles Bookstores chain and Coles Notes) created the world renowned Socrates system, the first object oriented development program for micro computers.

Using this system, Arrakis created the Arrakis Advantage Homework Helper series of educational software published by Prentice Hall, Simon & Shuster, McGraw Hill and Grolier. The Arrakis Advantage series remained at the top of the best seller list for more than 10 years.

Arrakis became a core developer for numerous computer and publishing companies including: IBM, Apple,  Commodore,  Atari, Burroughs, 3M, Tandy Corp, Sail Magazine, Omni, and Penthouse.

Arrakis was also an R&D center for Southam, Versitech, 3M. McGill   University, Concordia University, Sony , Phillips and Hitachi.

In 1998 I sold my interest in Arrakis to Southam and started Tetragon Sytems specifically to exploit the coming CD Rom technology as a core developer for Sony, Phillips and Hitachi.

Tetragon built the first Telephone Directories on CD Rom, helped develop Find -it, the first Boolean Search Engine for CD Rom and  created Use-it the first integrated Database to Application bridge for PC's. We also worked with Grolier to launch the first consumer CD Rom product, The Grolier Encylopedia.
Note: To create our new  Cd Rom Telephone Directory, we had to create the data. So we bought every Telephone Directory published in Canada and had it hand keyed in India into a computer database. Tapes were then shipped to Arlington Texas and cross matched with Zip code and other data. What a job!
